Laos, Vietnam Celebrate Two Historic Days

High-ranking offi cials of Laos and Vietnam take part in celebration of
two historic days  of Laos and Vietnam at the National Culture

(KPL) President Bounnhang Vorachit, Deputy Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Tong Thi Phong along with other high-ranking officials of Laos and Vietnam took part in a grand meeting held at the National Culture Hall in Vientiane to celebrate two historic days of the two countries.

“Today is very historically meaningful for the two nations of Laos and Vietnam to organise this grand meeting in Vientiane Capital to celebrate the two historic days of Laos and Vietnam: the 40th anniversary of the signing of Laos-Vietnam Treaty of Amity and Cooperation and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries,” said President Bounnhang Vorachit.

The president recalled the sound relationship and mutual assistance between the people of Laos and Vietnam that have been maintained and nurtured by people of the two countries since time immemorial.

He recalled the time when Lao and Vietnamese people and armies fought side by side against invading powers to liberate their motherlands and expressed the gratitude of Lao and Vietnamese Parties, governments and people toward Great President Ho Chi Minh and two beloved Presidents Kaysone Phomvihane and Souphanouvong who gave birth to, natured and enhanced the friendship and special solidarity between Laos and Vietnam decades ago.

At the meeting Ms Tong Thi Phong expressed gratitude to the Lao PDR for supporting Vietnam in its fight for national independence and its pursuance of current cause of national development and construction.

She also briefed the gathering about the socio-economic development achievements in Vietnam.

During the visit to Laos by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in April, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and his Vietnamese counterpart designated 2017 as the Year of Laos-Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship.

July 2017 is filled with several events designed to mark the two milestones in the history of Laos and Vietnam.

These events include the launch of Vietnamese Week for Culture and Tourism on Jul 17, the grand meeting to recall the two historical days of Laos and Vietnam at National Culture Hall on Tuesday, and the visit to Laos by Deputy Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tong Thi Phong.

Ms Tong Thi Phong included in her visit schedule her courtesy call to President Bounnhang Vorachit, and visits to Kaysone Phomvihane Museum, President Souphanouvong Memorial and cultural tourist attractions in Vientiane, Vientiane Province and Xiengkhouang Province.
